South Africa’s series chances are maintained by Markram and the spinners.

Aiden Markram’s century helped South Africa defeat Australia by 111 runs in the third one-day international on Tuesday at the JB Marks Oval in Potchefstroom, snapping their winning streak.

In a 338 for six South African total, Markram struck 102 not out.

David Warner and Travis Head launched an aggressive attack on South Africa before they were able to bowl out Australia for 227.

After winning a Twenty20 series 3-0, Australia won the first two games of the five-match series.

When Warner and Head smashed 79 for the first wicket in only 48 balls, the tourists appeared to be on course for a second victory.

Australia reached three digits twice in a row while fielding limits were in place when they were 104 for one at the conclusion of the 10-over power play.

On a track that was favorable to spin, however, left-arm spinners Tabraiz Shamsi (two for 29) and Keshav Maharaj (two for 37) turned the tide of the game before fast bowler Gerald Coetzee (four for 50) put an end to the Australian innings.

Warner, who scored 78 runs off 56 balls, was directly run out by Maharaj, who also made a crucial play in the field.

Temba Bavuma, the captain of South Africa, stated, “We needed a positive one.”
The hitters buckled down, and we bet on the wicket helping the spin spinners, which is exactly what happened.

“The power play didn’t go as well as we wanted, but the way we clawed it back was exactly what we’re looking for.”

The setback, according to Australian captain Mitchell Marsh, was “a little slip-up” in circumstances that will probably repeat themselves during the World Cup in India later this month.

He stated, “Hopefully we learned a lot from that.

With an opening stand of 146 runs in 22.5 overs, Quinton de Kock (82) and captain Temba Bavuma (57) gave South Africa the perfect start.

However, Australia was able to stifle the score thanks in large part to the efforts of part-time off-spinner Travis Head, who utilized a slow, dry ground to bowl unaltered and take two for 39 in 10 overs.

With a sixth-wicket partnership of 63 runs off 31 balls, Markram and Marco Jansen provided the batting a late boost. Sean Abbott’s magnificent diving left-handed catch put an end to the partnership.
