Packers conclude preseason with a 19-15 triumph against the Seahawks

The Green Bay Packers concluded their preseason with a 19-15 victory over the Seattle Seahawks. Jordan Love, who is set to take over as the Packers’ starting quarterback following Aaron Rodgers’ trade to the New York Jets, had a solid showing. Love threw a touchdown pass to Christian Watson in his final series of the game, capping a 15-play, 80-yard drive.

Love expressed his focus on feeling comfortable and maintaining his practice performance in the actual game. He completed 9 of 15 passes for 63 yards and had three rushes for 21 yards. Throughout the preseason, Love exhibited promise, going 21 of 33 for 193 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions in three starts.

The Packers’ hopes for Love’s impact parallel the surprise performance of Geno Smith for the Seahawks last season. Smith led the Seahawks to the playoffs after Russell Wilson’s trade to the Denver Broncos. In this game, the Seahawks rested most of their starters, allowing backup quarterback Drew Lock to lead the offense. Lock, who had previous starting experience with the Denver Broncos, completed 16 of 25 passes for 150 yards and a touchdown.

Seattle’s rookie undrafted free agent, Jake Bobo, made an impression with an 18-yard touchdown catch from Lock. Bobo’s strong preseason showing positioned him well for a spot on Seattle’s roster.

The game featured several lead changes, with SaRodorick Thompson’s 1-yard touchdown run giving the Seahawks a temporary lead. However, the Packers secured the win with a late 1-yard touchdown run by Nate McCrary. The victory was sealed by a crucial interception by Benny Sapp in the end zone in the closing seconds.

The Packers also showcased rookie kicker Anders Carlson, who made two field goals and a 57-yarder before having an extra-point attempt blocked. Carlson, a sixth-round pick from Auburn, is expected to replace long-time kicker Mason Crosby.

In terms of injuries, both teams experienced setbacks. Seahawks linebacker Devin Bush suffered a concussion, while Seahawks safety Joey Blount and outside linebacker Derick Hall sustained shoulder injuries. Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs missed the game due to a hamstring injury, and linebacker De’Vondre Campbell was sidelined with an ankle injury.

Looking ahead, the Seahawks will kick off the regular season on September 10 by hosting the Los Angeles Rams, while the Packers will begin their regular season on the same day against the Chicago Bears.
